Texas, only a century or two behind
0 Comments Published June 19th, 2006 in Cultural, Ridiculing StupidityA Texas school teacher may lose her job. Is it for breaking the law? Nope. Is it for doing a bad job? Nope. Is it because Texas is trapped in the 1800′s? Yes! Apparently, she had a topless picture posted online at Flickr.com by her partner. The article mentions several pictures, but the only questionable one I saw was a picture that revealed nothing. She was topless, but her arms were crossed over her chest in an artistic pose.
So, basically Texas is saying that we should be ashamed of our bodies. Teachers should hold themselves to high standards for less than $30,000 a year (salary of a new teacher with Bachelor’s Degree per TASB News). Texas conservatives have continuously tried to lead their state with 1800′s-style religious rule. Van Orden v. Perry (2005, Supreme Court) allowed Texas to display the ten commandments in the capital because it is a “landmark” that can be like a museumâ€â€a museum that can display religious art but not anything artistic with a female unless she is covered in a Burka.
Oh yes, Texas is my favorite state to make fun of. I mean, if you can seriously consider breast feeding a sexual act, then I guess a topless teacher should be hung. Wait, that was a joke. Do they still do that down there?
