Oops, I killed my baby

According to the Grand Forks Herald, a women forgot that her five-month-old child was in the vehicle, so she never dropped the baby off at the daycare. She was surprised when she went to pick the child up from the daycare and the workers said the baby had never been dropped off. The baby was left in the car all day and had died, probably from a combination of heat exhaustion and dehydration/starvation. Police don’t expect to file any charges.

If this is legal, then I guess abortions have to be legal… It’s really pathetic when you can’t even remember your own child. Yeah, you might have a lot going on, but what is more important than human life? I think this is a prime example of how our society is. The emphasis on family is nearly gone. Parents are more concerned with work and their personal lives than actually being parents. They expect teachers to raise their children and teach them right from wrong. They expect daycares to do the parenting. And now parents can’t even remember to drop off their children?

I almost feel bad posting about this, because I’m sure that the lady feels terrible, but sometimes you just have to take responsibility for your actions (or inactions). I think that people should have the right to have children, but, then again, you have to look at the children too. Will they even have a chance in the world? Maybe people should be required to attend a “Don’t be a moron” parenting class. Or, people who don’t attend it don’t receive IRS tax deductions for their children.
