Booked To Death

20+ books jumbled on the floorThis is “dead week,” a.k.a. “the week where a whole lot of projects are due even though they shouldn’t be.” Next week is finals week and the week after is Spring “Break” (I’ll be working full-time). I’ve read some great books this quarter (and I promise to eventually write some more posts about them); I’ve read some okay books; I’ve given up after only a few chapters on quite a few books too. In case you are wondering, no, this picture does not contain all of the books from this quarter; two are missing that I can think of right now. It also doesn’t include the ten or so short stories nor does it include the dozen or more poems. Did I read everything? Of course not! I tried, but some of these books were like getting a paper cut on your eye and then washing it out with salt water and bleach, and possibly scrubbing it clean with sandpaper afterward. In other words, they have “academic” value. Fortunately, several of these books were actually enjoyable (mostly the newer ones… does that make me a “shallow” reader?). I am only taking one literature class next quarter as opposed to three, so I should have some free time that I can waste use productively on blog posts.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if the excessive book reading of college caused the book burning fervor of Fahrenheit 451?
