Storms And Alarms

Earth-shaking thunder and ragged lightning: very cool; the resulting answer of car alarms going off at 2:30am: not cool at all. Dear car owner: I’m glad your overly-sensitive car alarm lets you sleep soundly at night. The rest of the neighborhood is jealous; we’re all wishing we could sleep soundly too.

    Ian,

I worked part-time for several years at an outlet bookstore in a mall (the kind where every store opens to the outside but not a strip mall).

One of the most aggravating things was a car alarm going off. Sometimes I would think that a sledge hammer and other solid tools would be handy things to have around.

Maybe the next most aggravating thing was a customer who talked on a cell phone the entire time in the store, including while the sale was rung up and the payment made.

My car alarm is set to be very insensitive to vibration, having worked at a base with F16s constantly taking off. There are a lot of people who have their alarms set to be over sensitive, so that they chirp just from other cars going by. My exhaust is a very deep grumble and seems to be particularly fond of triggering those types of alarms.
