This is the sketch that got me to actually queue up all these blog entries on November 10th. Hopefully you can see why I am so proud of it. I used 2H, HB, 2B, and 6B pencils as well as the cheap charcoal, and it all came together really nicely. For those who are unaware, Samus Aran is the character on the right and the metroid is the creature on the left. They’re both from the Metroid video game series.
I had a really hard time with the proportions of Samus. She is in an absolutely ridiculous space suit, which has shoulder things that are as wide as her waist. I ended up making her legs much thinner than how they’re represented by the pros (i.e., the people who get paid for concept art); fortunately, they’re not too noticeable since most eyes are drawn to the other parts of the drawing. Ah crud, was that an unintentional pun? Here, I’ll add a close-up of part of the drawing to make up for it:
